Parent Newsletter - February 2017

Dear Parents/ Guardians & Families:

I Hope you have been enjoying the unusually mild   winter that the east coast has had recently.  Unfortunately, Punxsutawney Phil, the world's most famous prophesizing groundhog, has seen his shadow and is predicting six more weeks of winter.  No matter what the weather is outside, the learning environment at I.S. 339 is hot with students whose minds are working overtime.  On December 23rd, the second marking period came to an end, we encourage parents to check on their child’s report-cards.  Report cards were distributed on January 27th.

The third marking-period is an optimal time for learning here at I.S. 339.  All students will be taking the New York State Tests on the following days:

  • ELA - March, 28th,  29th, and 30th
  • Mathematics - May 2nd 3rd, and May 4th

There are approximately less than 60 days until both of these critical exams will be taken Please encourage your child to continue to take advantage of the supplemental academic programs I.S. 339 has to offer.  We hold Saturday Academy from 8:30am-1:00pm.  If you have questions about your child’s involvement in any of our academic programs, please contact your child’s assistant principal, guidance counselor or homeroom teacher at 718-583-6767

Finally, just a reminder that IS 339 will be open for Mid-winter break Holiday School on February 21st, 22nd  and 23rd. Take advantage of this great opportunity for your child to get prepared for the ELA and MATH State test. Please make sure that your child arrives to school at 8 am ready to learn.

Thank you,
Kim Outerbridge
