We also provide Saturday Academy from 8:30am - 1:00pm. Dear Parents/ Guardians & Families: I hope you have been enjoying the unusually mild winter that the east coast has been enjoying recently.  Unfortunately, Punxsutawney Phil, the world's most famous prophesizing groundhog, has seen his shadow and is predicting six more weeks of winter.  No matter what the weather is outside, the learning environment at I.S. 339 is hot with students whose minds are working overtime.  On February 12th, the second marking period comes to an end, we encourage students to asked their teachers if they are missing any assignments that they could turn in before the grades are due. Teachers and advisors will submit second marking period grades and report cards will be issued during Parent/Teacher conferences, which will be held on March 17, 2016, during the two convenient sessions.  There will be an afternoon session from 1:00-3:00 PM and an evening session from 5:00-7:30 PM. Dear Parents/ Guardians & Families:    It seems like every time I sit down to write my parent newsletter I say to myself, I can’t believe how fast the year is going.  As we all know, December is here and with that comes the holiday season. My hope is that you enjoy time with your family and friends, and you are able to rest and take in this special time of year. During the month of November, we had a number of successful events happening here at the school. Our first marking period ended on November 6. On November 17th, we had parent-teacher conferences, which gave parents and teachers the opportunity to meet and discuss their child performance.  On November 25th, I.S. 339 and the community took time to celebrate the diversity of our students with food and to celebrate the learning that is taking place here at I.S. 339.  We had a variety of dishes from different countries and we would like to thank you all for making this festivity a success. Dear Parent/Guardians & Families, November is here and it is report card time already.  Tuesday, November 17th is Parent-Teacher Conference Day.  The conferences will be held from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, and 5:00pm to 7:30pm.  All students will be dismissed at 11:50am on Tuesday November, 17th.  Please arrange for your child to be picked up at that time since the staff members must have lunch and prepare for the afternoon conferences.  Report cards will be distributed at these conferences.  No report cards will be sent home with students.  You must have a meeting with your child's teacher to receive his or her report card.  It's important for parents to attend this conference so that your child's teacher and you can discuss your child's progress in school. PHIPPS after-school program has started, if your child has not returned his/her application, please do so as soon as possible.  If your child needs another application, he/she can see Mr. Martin in the main office. Each day, we make an effort to call the home of any student who is absent from one or more classes.  Attendance is extremely important.  Your child cannot learn if he or she is not here each and every day.  If you get this phone call, please realize that we want to make sure that you are aware of the student’s absence.  It is our goal to work with you on making sure that your child is in school.  A student can only miss 10 days throughout the entire year in order get promoted to the next grade.  Please help us focus on the importance of being in class everyday.   Parent Association IS 339 would like to congratulate all the parents that came out to support the SLT election on September 29th. Dear Parents/ Guardians & Families: Well June is finally here and all the hard work is about to pay off.  Congratulations to all the parents of the graduating class of 2015.   As we end this scholastic year I would like to thank every one that attended all the parent association meetings through out the school  year.  It is with great pleasure that I find myself enjoying my job more everyday because of you.  I have had the honor of working with some pretty terrific women and men this year. We had great parents workshops this year. One workshop that we would like to continue to grow upon is the, Fathers Forum. In our last Fathers Forum we had more than 70 fathers that showed up to support the school.  At the forum we talked about family issues, obstacles and father support. IS 339 is planning on having a Fathers Forum on a monthly bases beginning in September 2015. Dear Parents/Guardians & Families: Yes!  April is here and as you know your child is about to take the New York State English Language Arts and Mathematics exam over the course of the next two weeks. Parents please help your children get ready for the state exams. The NYS ELA will be administered on Tuesday April, 14, 15 and 16 Please ensure that your child is prepared for these days by getting a good night’s rest before the exam, eat nutritious breakfast and come to school on time with two sharpened No.2 pencil.
